Currently a 4th year in Glasgow, I have been developing an interest in the neurosciences since working on my dissertation project on opioid receptor signalling in dorsal root ganglia. This experience has allowed a greater appreciation of academia which I hope to help promote amongst our medical students to appreciate that improving the understanding of the nervous system at it's most basic level is needed to understand the patient in front of them and treat them better than their predecessors.

 

Neurosurgery in particular has developed my interest from my time spent on placements visiting neurosurgical units both locally and overseas to gain a greater insight into the pathophysiology behind GBM and hopefully assist in the development of novel treatments in the future. 

 

Hopefully these experiences will help to shape the society and provide new and exciting events over the next few years.
